Safe House season 2 (ITV, 2017) is a show I didn’t get along with because there was a lack of realism, believability and the character’s actions often didn’t seem believable either. Therefore, this created an absence of connection between myself and the show.
While the setup inciting incident of this crime-drama was intriguing and intense, leaving me curious about how will the stories link. However, soon after, instead of asking questions about the mystery, I found myself asking questions about the believability of the character’s actions. I also found that some of the police procedures were not believable. For example, an ex-police officer, Tom Broom, disliked by the superiors on a new case at hand, is allowed to walk onto a crime scene, under the blue tape while the PC on standby lets him through.
A safe house's purpose is to keep people safe from the outside world. However, as in season 1, phones are banned, but the characters still get them back with ease while at the safe house.
I didn't get along with this because the character's decisions were foolish, and there was too much of a similarity to season 1 with the phones. It would have been preferable to see if there could have been another way for the story to work without the need and must for mobile phones as a conflict.
Dani talks to a stranger, who invites her to a cave party, and she agrees. Considering her mum has been kidnapped and the point of her being at the safe house is to keep her safe from potential threats, the choice to go to a party is careless.
The character’s choices, similarities from the previous season, and the handling of the character setups, especially the main character, Tom Broom, are the reasons why I didn’t get along with this show.
