I'm one of the 50 TV Foundation The Network delegates chosen to go to the Edinburgh TV festival in August 2024.
I'm a First-Class (Hons) Screenwriting graduate from The University of Chichester.
My writing journey truly began after reading the Harry Potter novels at the age of 17, though I had originally been writing short stories for my granddad such as 'What's in the Box?' from the age of 12.
I was waiting for a bus, looking at a tree and thought to myself: 'what if there was some treasure under there!?' This led to me thinking 'I could write a novel about this as J.K Rowling did with the Harry Potter series!'
Although I started out wishing to write novels subconsciously what I was doing was writing novels hoping they would become films.
After completing my A-Levels at school, I then did an additional A-level in English Literature through an online distance-learning service.
As time went on I wrote down ideas for stories and started to write a novel 'The Seven' and would stay up late in the night watching inspiring videos about J.K Rowling.
I also got into more reading novels including A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Robert Langdon book series, Angels and Demons, and the David Hunter series, The Chemistry of Death.
The way I was writing my stories was in a very visual way, a ‘show don’t tell style’ (which is the screenwriter’s mantra). I was writing as if it was being shown in a cinema; my mind was the camera, picking up what the audience would see.
But as I learned more about myself as a writer, I was drifting away from writing novels and more toward writing for film and T.V.
Then in two years (2016-2018), I completed several, online writing, screenwriting and film courses including:
-
FutureLearn Business of Film
-
FutureLearn Screenwriting
-
Stonebridge College Screenwriting
-
NCC Creative Writing
-
Industrial Scripts Screenwriting
And I entered the following competitions and these entries can be found on the on the relevant projects page.
-
BAFTA Rocliffe Film Screenwriting (Film)
-
Green Stories Radio Play (Radio)
-
Val Wood Love Letters (Prose)
-
Brentwood Writers Circle Flash Fiction (Prose)
-
Costa Coffee Short Story (Prose)
My writing journey then took me to The University of Chichester where I studied screenwriting.
I will hopefully someday be able to write for a living in the genre I love, but in the mean time I will continue to learn, read, and write to master the craft of storytelling.
Below are some of my favourite film and tv shows, which have a running genre of thriller / psychological drama.
